Southern atmosphere landscapes and purely Atlantic coast.
This region is one of the destinies preferred by the nature
lovers. In its coast there are good beaches and cities
very related with navigation and commerce (the Rochelle,
Rochefort and Royan). It´s the perfect place to
taste oysters and mussels.
To the north is its capital, Poitiers, that has the thematic
park Futuroscope, cinemas in three dimensions and virtual
and thematic attractions with the latest in audio-visual
technologies, and the zone of Marais Poiteven, called
the "Green Venice": a complex labyrinth of rivers
and channels that finish in salt marshes near the coast,
suitable for the fluvial tourism. The south of the region
is crossed from east to west by the Carente river, with
cities like Angulema -host of the Comic museum- and Cognac,
that gives its name to the famous drink distilled here.
It is a good option to make a visit to the wineries and
distilleries.
