Museum
of Asian Arts
Designed by the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange, this museum
tries to approach the Eastern and Western artistic experiences.
It’s surrounded by an artificial lake and its design
is based on two geometric figures of great importance
for the Asian art: the square, an Earth symbol and the
circle, symbol of the sky.
In the building ground floor, the four cardinal points
evoke the two main Asian civilizations, India and China
and its influence in Southeast Asia and Japan. The first
floor, crowned with a crystal pyramid, is the refuge of
the Buddhist tradition. It has a multimedia room and a
Tea Pavilion. It does not have a collection of its own
but it lodges temporary exhibitions.
