Museum
of the Gaul-Roman Civilization
Inaugurated in 1975, the idea to construct a great archaeological
Museum was born in 1957 with the transference of an important
part of the Gaul-Romans collections to a small building
near the Roman theatres of Fourvière. The museum
is organized around three functions: permanent exhibition,
investigation and animation.
Half of the Museum surface is reserved to the presentation
of collections grouped by subjects, from the regional
prehistory to the 7th century. The other half is occupied
by offices, a specialized public library and particularly
the investigators, the reserves of collections of tablets,
small objects and, finally, a service of animation that
proposes guided tours and workshops.
